Does her ear smell? When my rat Henry II got an ear infection, his ear ponged. Had to get something to put down it. "Here Henry, hop on my lap and let me drip this cold viscous liquid into your ear."
I don't remember any sound though, so maybe you're right about the scab. Either way, the vet should be able to find it.
