Post review review post (2010)

About this time last year I made a list. Let's see how that went. (May or may not do the actual year wrapup meme later.)
In 2010 I would like the following to occur (some of which are carried over from last year, but that's no crime):
The Plan
* I would like to see the stars. Preferably in Broome some time in mid winter.
I saw stars from my driveway, but didn't make it out of light-polluted areas in pursuit of extra daylight as planned. Did however benefit greatly from a blue light therapy box so I wasn't quite so desperate for more solar radiation.
* Fremantle tunnel tour. Husband wants to take me down there all alone. I'm pretty sure he wants to bring me back up.
Carried forward. Again. Unfortunately I know exactly what would happen to me if I climbed those ladders on the wrong day, and there were no right days that corresponded with opportunity.
* Make serious enquiries about volunteering for Riding for the Disabled. One e-mail down.
TOTAL ABSOLUTE WIN YES YES YES YES! What an astonishingly positive experience that has been, on more levels than I dreamed possible. And I get to do it again next year! WooHoo!
* Test drive something I can't afford (note to self: dress well)
Not this year. Made do with advanced shopping trolley piloting, and a bit of accident avoidance on the roads. Don't feel quite the same urges, so perhaps I've adapted to the reality of living with an aging car with declining performance. That said, the Dakar Rally has just started so I might go all petrol-heady again.
* Paint part of the house
Not a square inch of it, but I did finally make the decision to paint the lounge the same colour as the kitchen, so that's progress of a sort. Kinda. I even looked up the colour.
* Seal the windows
Actually made some progress on this, and have gone through a couple of tubes of sealant. One day I may even finish. And paint.
* Comb the desert
Watched at least part of Spaceballs, so I imagine this counts.
* Do at least one thing to improve the thermal control in the house.
I had a report done, but cleverly managed to catch the collapse of all government subsidy programs so much paperwork came to nought. Nothing structural actually got done, but I have some brochures now and a better idea of what's possible. Minor issue of cash.
* Plant something.
Not a sausage. Killed a few more things, but the strong survive. I can't believe I've gone a whole year without digging a hole and burying some poor unfortunate creature.
* Find muscles.
I was going to say none, but I did discover a few used to duck through fences at the stables, and at one point thought I spotted a fleeting glimpse of my right bicep from grooming activities. Not quite what I had in mind, but better than nothing. The current ones are well under wraps.
* Rediscover beige food discipline.
It comes, it goes. It's currently gone but I've started easing back into it.
* Don't go too long between opportunities for fast adrenaline release. This could be tricky.
Turns out that this wasn't a good idea and I've been advised to live a quiet life. I'm sure the adventure tourism industry can absorb the loss.
* Earn an income above the poverty line, and preferably above our expenditure.
No. If I was actually dependent on my earning capacity alone I'd be homeless. Have reduced expenditure somewhat, but the savings are still shrinking and starting to make me nervous.
* Laugh
Some, although not much lately. More to follow.
* Dance
Want more. Was pleased to find myself bopping along to "The Power of Love" by Hewey Lewis and The News whilst folding laundry today, so there's hope.
* Love
Things got a bit wobbly but there was always some of it around from sundry sources. Much new horsie love.
* Make a costume for Swancon.
YES! Two of them! AND WE WON! MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
* Turn 40, and celebrate appropriately.
I'm not entirely certain that I celebrated appropriately, but the deed is done.
* Do not obsess about turning 40, except for comic effect.
I'll give myself a 6.5/10 on this.

Probably should note that I finally pushed myself to start working on The Book, and got up to 20K worth of notes, dialogue and some actual prose. Made a commitment to have something workshop-friendly in time for Swancon deadlines, so will have to get back into that soon. Most recent attempt to read back my own work was numbing in the extreme, but I'm experiencing the worst clinical depression of my life right now, so I'll allow some bias and try again later. Soon.
