I know from experience that it can be a bit dangerous to type while waiting for my sleeping pills to kick in. The exciting bit is that I can keep typing before I realise it's time to go to bed. Hilarity (and poor grammar) ensues. It's quite an experience the next morning reading words written only a few hours before, but not recognising them at all.
Today I managed to get to work for 2 1/2 hours in the afternoon, and spent it on time zone issues mostly. It can be terrribly frustrating, but I made a very important breakthrough today. I drew a couple of sets of diagrams and found out from the developer that one set of logic applied to one set of reports, but that another set of logic applied elsewhere, but he wasn't sure exactly which ones were which, and there were some exceptions... somewhere. I needed both him and a missing developer to check the source code and/or the fossil record to be certain what was going on in a chain of custody for data over 4 possible time zones and two possible adjustments.
Anyway, I found it reassuring that something that had been bothering me with its complexity and ambiguity was indeed complex and ambiguous. It's gone from a source of distress to a task of calm drudgery. The fun part is that most of the awkward and messy bits will be eliminated when the product is re-engineered to be more friendly for globe-spanning organisations. But in the meantime I just need to describe what it does now (that would be local now).
I read online reviews of two books I've read and reviewed/commented on myself. Both reviews were complimentary. For one of the books I agreed with the review; with the other I violently disagreed on multiple points, including the relative merits of the author's other work. Takes all types I suppose.
NAFF voting is open. Vote, donate, notice, admire and approve the process of shipping a financially challenged but deeply interesting person elsewhere. Don't be put off by the astonishingly off-putting web site. Most importantly, vote for
baby_elvis who is awesome and should go to Aussiecon 4.
Tomorrow being Tuesday I hold the hope that I might get close to a horse. Spoon allocation needs to go on getting up, bathing, dressing, feeding, driving and *then* working, but if I can manage the driving spoons after that (and the changing clothes and hair) I might get myself to the stables. How useful I might be after that point is far in the misty spoon future, but that's the plan.
Wednesday evening I'm booked to go to a Women of ACS networking event. I haven't been to one of these before, for a variety of reasons. Given that I've trained myself to be comfortable in the silver-haired-men-in-suits crowd for the main meetings, it will be interesting to see how this goes. I'm out of practice at dealing with female colleagues. The topic for presentation is using social media for business purposes, and the presenter is a writer/analyst of my kind of stripe so it will be interesting to meet her.
I had such hopes for last week, and powered in strong on Monday and for half of Tuesday before coming to a complete halt with the B12-triggered flare. Maybe my gentler start to this week means that I'll have more endurance and can get back to the level of activity I was starting to enjoy before Swancon.
Time to go nigh nighs.
