wildilocks and I went to The Loose Box last month for her birthday and we both had their Manjimup Truffle menu. Was verra nice: recommended, in season (June to August). In my limited experience, grated truffle is indeed a little dirt-like; truffle cooked into things is significantly superior. For home cooking, I'd echo doctor_k_: truffle oil is the go. (I have to thank a certain recent ex for introducing me to the delights of truffles; she is a major fan.)
