I am very pleased with today. With caffeine assist I managed 4 hours at work. Given that my absolute maximum is usually 3 hours that's really good. The only down side was that I spent all of that time working on date/time issues *shudder*. I HATE time zones. They don't play nice inside my head :-(
It's taking a long time to get my coffee order straight; weeks can go by between trials so progress is slow. I appreciate that there's common confusion in coffee terminology, but all I want is a straight answer to replace my former "flat white with only half the usual milk. No, not the cup filled up halfway with milk, but half the amount of milk you'd normally add, with no foam." Someone suggested I try a macchiato, which was a bit stronger, but infinitely preferable to the usual result. Tiny, but better.
A couple of times now I've asked for a single macchiato, and then been asked in return if I wanted it topped up with milk *headdesk*. Then I tried asking for a single short macciato to make it clear I was not a fan of the cow. Did I want that topped up with milk? No, I do not want my SHORT MACCHIATO topped up with milk. Apparently the new secret weapon is to ask for a trad macchiato. With a spot of googling to check my spelling I'm beginning to suspect I need to specify a traditional caffe macchiato with cold milk (and one sugar).
Twist of lemon? NO!!!!
I don't want to be a coffee snob! I just want nice coffee! I want the same coffee each time! I want to be able to tell Husband what I want in as few words as possible so he can order it for me while I snag a table.
Today's whatever-it-was was quite nice. The +12 hour bonus reaction is kicking in nicely.
After work I headed up to Big Shopping Centre X to catch up on medical claims going back to September or so. It can be a bit of a spoon-heavy trek so I'm pleased to have this task done. Both counter persons were very pleasant. As a bonus I got to go to JB HiFi to spend my Christmas vouchers (and then some, but Medicare foolishly gave me cash).
The haul:
Pixar Short Film Collection Volume 1
Monsters and Aliens
The Blue Planet box set (MORE Attenborough! I already had this on video but considered it worth the expense to upgrade)
And because I spent more than $100, a free frills-free copy of Avatar, which was fine because I'd never planned on buying it anyway, so am neither stuck with an extra basic copy, nor disappointed to miss out on special features.
I have booked a haircut for Wednesday. Why do these things seem so difficult sometimes?
Yesterday I managed some gardening, laundry, paperwork, and dustbusting. I started toying with an idea potentially for More Scary Kisses: a shapeshifting vampire horse and a lonely widow in 1930s outback Australia. A grown-up and more thoughtful take on my Ultimate Teen Novel idea of horsies and sexy boy vampires (
kae_dash did I ever tell you that you were my model for a sexy horse vampire? It's all about the moves, the exotic breeding and the flowing back mane. Um, I hope you don't mind.) On the bright side I have heroine in my head who isn't me at all, not even a Mary Sue version. I like her, but she's sad.
Tomorrow is a potential real horsie day, and I'm hoping to be strong enough to do a bit of useful fetching and carrying. And some more scritching and smooching :-) I'd quite like the chance to handle someone a bit more lively, to see if I can work with a bit of initial resistance and gain the attention and co-operation of a distracted or energetic animal. I need to be reminded that these creatures are flesh and blood, and spirit and fire. And occasionally grumpy. Maybe tomorrow I'll be stepped on, kicked, or nipped. Perhaps I'll be eluded in the field, left holding an empty halter with only the echo of a defiant whinny in my ears, and the dust from flying hooves stinging my eyes.*
I am hopeful about this week. The B12 shot took me 2-3 days to get over, but nothing like the last one. I have tradies to call, and presents to deliver. I have a life to lead! Things are looking up.
(*) In case you hadn't guessed, whenever I get like that I'm practising "writing". It's likely to happen more often. I figure the more I do it here the easier I'll find it to actually write a proper story, because it won't seem like such an alien exercise. But if you ever see the words "perfect pony paradise" used in a sentence you know I'm taking the piss. If you fear that I'm not taking the piss, shoot me. Also, feel free to make editorial comment on the inevitable and excess fruitiness of my expression. I need practice getting edited as well.
