Shopping and scalping

I tried a bit of drug abuse this morning to help the spoons along, and had a cup of coffee with breakfast.
I take my coffee quite seriously, and don't usually trust the home-grown, but I did my best under the circumstances and used a coffee bag. It was much better than the worst coffee I've ever had, but it wasn't an especially pleasurable experience. I felt dirty.
But conscious.
So I got a bit done: some laundry; some medicare administrivia; some Other Stuff. I was keen to absorb a bit of daylight, so I pushed beyond what I felt was sensible and went to Kingsway shopping centre for a bit of browsing and some roasted chick peas. I was fortunate to miss the burst sewerage pipe in the area.
The second-hand book people very nicely accepted the credit voucher I've been carrying around since... some time in 2007. Good thing I hadn't noticed the "valid for 6 months" stamp or I might have done myself out of $6.70 credit on the Slonczewski.
Cruised the DVD shelves of Big W, but was not sorely tempted. I had given myself internal permission to buy certain titles if I found them, but fate protected my credit rating. I would never dream of buying anything at Sanity I could conceivably find at JB HiFi, so passed on the new-release price of Dexter s3. I hope all that fake blood doesn't leak.
Then off to see
mikey_ob for a long-deferred visit. We've had a mutual pact for some time to get together to break my gaming hoodoo, or at least educate me without witnesses. However, the lad's been feeling sadly off so I was happy to provide some quiet company and the old Magic Fingers. Yes, it's been way too long but I'm ever so pleased to discover that I'm still capable of providing a bit of headache relief. I don't have the old strength nor probably the endurance, but it was a good start and I look forward to doing more of it.
In return I was exposed to the fun of Big Bang Theory (why have I not noticed this before?) and modern architecture, with a smattering of cooking show. The M&B household video and tivo selections are uncannily similar to those of the S&M household :-)
We also talked about psychology quite a lot which I found very interesting as we come from--quite literally--different schools of thought. I look forward to more!
Next massage victim should be my middle sister who is celebrating her birthday tomorrow.
And the coffee? I have come to the conclusion that caffeine gives me plastic spoons; temporary at best, and not quite the real thing. Enough to animate the corspe but not really sufficient to drive the brain. But it's a start, and today those plastic spoons gave me something like a sense of purpose again, albeit coloured with a few poignant memories.
