stephbgLate last night I girded my loins and upgraded my modem firmware and controller software. And it broke :-( . I tried this and that and got the odd gasp, but I couldn't make it stick.
I had to go to bed without Internet! I felt terribly alone and vulnerable.
Called support this morning who took me through all the steps I'd already tried until I got transferred to the lovely Ben in Brisbane. After a while he uttered those fearsome words: "That's odd."
Noooooooooooo!
After a while he tracked down a Microsoft driver management issue and we went hunting obscure registry entries. After more than an hour on the phone I managed to connect, but things are a bit unstable yet.
I also have some odd screen font issues, and something else I can't put my finger on. Perhaps a leftover or a reset from Safe Mode?
In brighter news, my download stats for the last 20 minutes now bear some relationship to reality, so there's one thing fixed at least.
