I am enjoying the TV series Lie to Me very much indeed; so much so that I feel the urge to possess my own copy on DVD.

I think the dramatic structure of being independent consultants works well to support multiple storylines of varying complexity. There's room for light moments should they choose to go there (even wacky might work in small isolated doses), and as consultants they just skip in and out of cases with a hit of exposition and an exiting report.

I even like the plot device of the instinctive-but-untrained new member of staff. Useful for exposition, lots of room for character development, opportunities to compare and contrast instinct with scientific method.

I like the production desgn, and the fact that the actors must get their expressions absolutely right for important scenes. I like that it's educational. A Britsh accent on the lead doesn't hurt the cause, and I'm beginning to relish the moments when he changes his behaviour (invading personal space, eating sloppily etc) to elicit particular responses from subjects.

Anyone else keeping up with the series? [livejournal.com profile] girliejones, you weren't too keen when it first came out. Did you keep watching?
