Take a robot, design it to feed off organic matter, add a gun, a sense of ego and self-preservation, and what do you have? A killing machine deeply motivated to kill.
I expect most people reading this will be aware of the fuss over the lack of female representation in the recent Triple JJJ Hottest 100 of All Time. One of the arguments was that the Yoof of Today (i.e. the JJJ demographic) had no respect for women etc etc.
Consistency can be a virtue. Sometimes. In Calculating GOD, Robert J. Sawyer does what he's done before (or possibly after, for I've not checked the relative publication dates); he explores interesting ideas, but frames these with the flimsiest of characters, setting and narrative.
