Acknowledgement from Elizabeth Moon
May. 26th, 2008 04:59 pmFrom the Acknowledgements in Victory Conditions (2008), the final volume in the Vatta's War series by Elizabeth Moon, Swancon's charming GoH from 2007:
"...The concom, other guests, and members of SwanCon in Perth, Western Australia, were also helpful (some without knowing it), including the gentleman who confirmed my suspicions about the relationship that might exist between secret agents in different political entities..."

On Tension
May. 26th, 2008 10:04 pmAs a non-fiction writer there are a lot of things I don't get to do. Characterisation (of the fictional variety) is one. I also don't get to manufacture tension, or manipulate the passage of time. However, that's hardly going to stop your average critic (or even me), and this caught my attention during one of the many let's-call-it-action scenes in the alleged medical thriller The Xeno Solution by Nelson Erlick.
( No, I can't let it go. It was bad but I think we can all learn something from it. )
Am I wrong? Validation sought.
