Attended my first Swancon committee meeting this afternoon.
There was a great deal of hugging. It was the first meeting for three of the committee, myself included, and so an important part of the session was the round of introductions. The vibe is good, there are some impressive skills and experience to hand and I'm looking forward to the rest of it. It was also very nice to put some new names to faces and lj identities, and visit a new house.
I found myself volunteering for more bits and pieces. It's a slippery slope, but I'm pretty sure I'll never lose enough IQ points to volunteer to be Treasurer, Hotel or Guest Liaison. Those bits are Hard.
Last night I made an appearance at
punkrocker1991's birthday BBQ/Cocktail party. I arrived a bit late after deciding to stay at home to eat one of my new beige meals, but since he lives a 3 minute drive away I put in a few hours without any trouble. I was very impressed with the storage facilities and cat amenities.
I amused a small child, briefly. The small child attempted to poke out my eye. Fair exchange.
Much amusement (of the appalled variety) was to be had reading through cocktail recipe books. Caught up with skippy of no-lj-land which was very nice. We used to see a lot more of each other at Uni and years following but have drifted of late.
I have been invited to speak to SAGE-AU (the System Administrators Guild of Australia) about technical writing by Andrew Shugg. i.e. the presentation I'm due to deliver to the ACS in July. I have a feeling we've met, it being Perth. Anyone recognise the name?
Presently ensconced with Husband watching the tennis. We're barracking for the French guy who looks like Muhammad Ali. We are not prone to watch sport, but we just like this guy, and it's an excuse to loll together.
