Free to good home – wedding cake, only used once

Near enough to 21 years ago, Husband and I got married in a fairly traditional manner, and this included a two-tiered fruitcake-based wedding cake. The lower tier was consumed at or around the time of the wedding, but the top tier remained intact and on display in our homes for, let's say a long time.

Our 20th Anniversary trip to Dunsborough (Part I)

On December 4 1993 Husband and I became Husband and Wife. With a bit of effort all around we remained so for 20 years after that, so we celebrated by getting away for a couple of days down south in Dunsborough, Western Australia. The site was chosen for its proximity to the ocean (for Husband) and to decent granite geology for me. In a perfect intersection of the two, Husband was also keen to see a cave. I'll try and record as much of the trip here as possible; there will be some photos, but not many, because we have this weird tendency towards experiencing life as it happens.

Christmas at Sector 7

Husband (if he wants to live) usually draws a cartoon for me at Christmas, and on anniversaries and birthdays. For Christmas 2012 he chose to recreate a scene from the film The Thing (1982). Because reasons.

The merry stars of Windsor

In Melbourne we stayed at The Hotel Windsor on Spring Street, right over the road from the Victorian parliament house, and oh-so-conveniently exactly at a stop on the city circle free tram route. It was teh awesome.

This is what happens...

Planet Video are having a $2 sale of some of their weekly rental DVD stock, and I foolishly told Husband who promptly vanished out the door. What did he get?

But wait, there's more

Guess what? More cancer in the ones I love. This is getting old. I hope they do too. Strictly speaking it's a cancer scare at this point, but even if it's a localised problem it's still a bad one with career consequences.

An outing, with fishies

Went with Husband for the second (and hopefully last) time to the local Video Ezy closing down sale and acquired *cough* a few more titles. List to be posted separately. Then it was down to Hillary's boat harbour again for coffee, solar radiation, sculpture, and wildlife.

Out! Out!

This morning Husband took us to see the rather optimistically-titled but buckets o' fun Guildford Museum of Natural History. My kind of fun bucket at least :-) It's a hall/warehouse full of stuffed and mounted animal hides and skeletons, run by the decidedly creepy (but quite possibly lovely) taxidermist himself. Value at $5 per adult.

Godzilla versus Giant Purple Octopus

I shouldn't complain about being housebound most of the time. Sector 7 is a pretty exciting place to live sometimes. Look what I found going down in the dining room: Read more... )

More rocks

It is a complete co-incidence that I managed a once-in-a-handful-of-years rock shopping trip last week immediately prior to the WA Lapidary and Rockhunting Club Inc. Annual Exhibition (and SALE!) of Gemstones, Jewellery, Fossils and Minerals. I'm never naming that event again. It's on next weekend as well if you feel the urge for a cheap outing at $2/$1 entry, including one free rock.

Apparently there aren't many musical arrangements in the world for banjo and piano. I think I can guess the reason why.

Cutlery abuse

Quick one to note that I've spent the last week or so in deep viral fatigue, but actually in quite a good mood. Yet again my physical, mental and emotional states fail to correlate in any meaningful fashion, but it's nice to feel myself again.
