Can I fix it?

YES I CAN!

Rather foolishly late at night and after I'd taken my pills I partially disassembled the laptop to see if I could recognise the part I had to swap. And it all went downhill from there. I seem to have a few spare screws, and I deployed some sticky tape, but it felt like the right thing to do. I have swapped my laptop inverter!

I shall now record any lapses in performance, if any. I reckon if it goes a week I can call it fixed!

Nothing like some late-night mad science to rebuild your evil cred, is there?

:)

Here's hoping it all works!

Oh, and about the screws... I used to work with a guy who would deliberately put an extra screw in the bottom of the case of every server he worked on, so that the next person to open it up and work on it would be left with one over...

Woohoo!

Spare screws seem par for the course, unless you have rather a lot of little glass dishes and spend even more time on documentation than disassembly.

I knew where the spare screws were supposed to go, but I lacked the patience and dexterity to put them in. At one point I needed four hands. When I snapped all the layers together and put in the external screws it seemed to work ok.

Does this sound familiar?
