VBA horror

Continued today with the current project: a "How to" guide for creating a Xemplet-COM integration demo. Will be emphasising the separation of logic and data management, teaching the basics of modelling with complex types (constructing, deconstructing and passing arrays and structures) and of course calling the modelling logic from a VBA script.

Today I designed the narrative, i.e. how the concepts build upon each other, and built the XempleX models. That was the easy bit.

Then I started on the VB. Ick. Such finicky syntax! I got the basic communications running but I'm still sorting out the basic declarations, objects and types. Such a lot of crap to have to get *precisely* correct before you can actually achieve anything. Ick.

I want my pictures back. I want a decent prototyping environment. I don't want to squint at text all day. Graphical language good.

Unfortunately my target audience is "US sixth-graders" so I have to understand it all a lot more thoroughly to make sure I explain everything clearly enough. I do enjoy a technical challenge, but I forgot how damn annoying scripting languages can be in the early days *kicks filing cabinet*. Oh well, I had to build some disgusting Excel formulae and tortured SQL to show how much nicer XempleX models are, so it's just another argument for Good.

VB is pretty bad but still not as annoying as JACL, which TCL with access to java objects. JOY!.

Mmmmmm.
