Pretty rock of the day: Amethyst/citrine mix in quartz

Today's pretty rock was brought in from the cold (well, the nice sunshine actually) where it normally resides as one of the outside rocks on the edifice formerly known as the barbeque.

Rather than my usual thin slabs this is a great big chunk o' rough with one polished face, so it's coming up in the world. At several kilos and as common as mud, this isn't something I'd get on eBay, but was bought locally at The Gemstone Factory in Orange Grove. I wouldn't bet my life on it, but there's a very good chance it's from Australia, if not WA.

As per usual I see all sorts of interesting possibilities in these pictures. In one of them I can see a frog hunting a goldfish, but that's almost certainly going to require some explanation before the nice men come to take me away.

I also looked at a couple of other neglected outside rocks, and scored a cute picture of a very tiny spider. I've put that picture up on Facebook, because I've run out of room on flickr until I pay $$$ - any new picture displaces an old one so I'm being selective. All the old pictures are still there, but the links for all but the most recent 200 won't work until I pay the ransom money subscription fee.

This spider picture link may or may not work for non-FB users: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10150300068286702.355121.705946701&type=3#!/photo.php?fbid=10150889669476702&set=a.10150300068286702.355121.705946701&type=3&theater
