Careers meme thingie
Acquired from many people, instructions lifted from here at

I really enjoyed doing this and analysing the results (curiously enough, "analyst" made it to #1). It's actually a reasonably good breakdown of most of the things I do. I've never really figured out the best one sentence answer to the dreaded "So what do you do?" question. Read below the cut and you'll see why.
Reasonably Accurate Highlights
1. Business Systems Analyst
2. Database Developer
4. Professor
5. Desktop Publisher
6. Computer Programmer
7. Technical Writer
8. Communications Specialist
Full list with deep thoughts
1. Business Systems Analyst
2. Database Developer
Bang on, particularly since I spent today designing a supply chain database and business solution. Are we going to have enough widget handles to fill this month's orders? Stay tuned.
3. Video Game Developer
I design software and have an evil mind and a love of narrative, shocks and combat, but I've never done this particular gig. Oh yeah, I don't play video games.
4. Professor
My mainstream academic career ended with my thesis proposal for a Master of Science degree which I dropped in favour of, er, my sanity. I was mainly attracted by the idea of a qualification that came with a cape and a voiceover with echo. I did teach psych labs and I design training materials. I'm prone to lecture if deemed appropriate. Does that count?
5. Desktop Publisher
Frequently
6. Computer Programmer
Not as a speciality, but lately more and more. I was horrified to discover recently that I now visualise VBA in shapes. Does an A+ in Computer Science 100 in 1992 count for anything?
7. Technical Writer
8. Communications Specialist
Pretty much most of What I Do.
9. Website Designer
If I must. I do have "Web Mistress" on my resume.
10. Certified Public Accountant
Two-three years ago I'd have collapsed on the ground snorting milk out of my nose at the very idea. A neat trick considering I can't drink milk. Since I'm presenting a lecture on mine business planning next week, I can fake it rather better these days. I know lots of 'counting words now.
11. Computer Network Specialist
I have something of an allergy to networks, but have managed to fake a surprising level of expertise in the past. All forgotten now. Pass me that RJ45?
12. Web Developer
See #9
13. Multimedia Developer
I *love* doing educational animations.
14. Industrial Engineering Tech
I'm interested in the processes but wouldn't want to actually do it.
15. Anthropologist
Well I've managed to squeeze the words "tribe", "mud", "nudity", "high school", "Buffy" and "weapons" into a lecture about business planning. And I use the principles of anthrop every day to deal with Americans, marketing people and IT managers, so I'm almost surprised this isn't higher.
16. Operations Research Analyst
I see it as intimately connected to #1 Business Systems Analyst. Not really surprising when my current favourite thing is combining technical and financial data. Someone has to make the widgets and someone has to figure out how much they cost to make and sell. In spite of common practice, these two things are more intimately connected than the typical mishmash of dubious spreadsheets would suggest.
17. Interior Designer
Not professionally, but anyone who saw my last house would agree I certainly have an interest if not a commercial flair.
18. Historian
19. ESL Teacher
20. Architect
Drifting
21. Computer Trainer
If I must, but I try to avoid it. Unless it's something like staff induction where it's in my direct interest to make sure the new minions are up to speed.
22. Office Manager
Snore
23. Project Manager
24. Logistics Specialist
Honestly surprised these are not further up the list. I have a shiny qualification in IT Project Management worth about 1/3 of an MBA.
25. Public Policy Analyst
26. Bank Manager
27. Political Aide
28. Management Consultant
29. Health Care Administrator
30. Webmaster
31. Economist
32. Cartographer
33. Researcher
Vague vague
34. Clothing Manufacturer
35. Artist
Given my Swancon Masquerade habits I am pleased and amused to see these two together.
36. Mediator
37. Botanist
38. Customs Broker
39. Lobbyist
Just making up the numbers now. Customs broker? I do enjoy watching Border Security...
40. Lawyer
Ah, what might have been. When I first enrolled at UWA it was my plan to go into law. I had a particular interest in Constitutional law of all things, so my future employment prospects might have been a bit limited ("Secede!"). First year Arts was merely a necessary stepping stone, but then I discovered psych and the joys of human experimentation, and here we are.
