What the?

Spent some time with the folks this afternoon chatting about the usual things, but was distracted by something Mother said that struck me as somewhat out of character.



We were talking about TV, and the new series Underbelly, when Mum said that she was surprised to stumble across one of the bad guys in an earlier role as a gentle caring doctor. No surprises there, actors have been known to play different characters.

"He was really very nasty in Underbelly," she said, but added in an aside as though to reassure me, "but he was gunned down."

Okaaaaaay.

I don't believe I have ever heard Mother use the verb "to gun down" before.

I'll admit I'll sometimes have problems envisaging a particular actor in a role if the roles they've done before have been quite different.

Take Anne Hathaway. Prior to seeing her in Brokeback Mountain, I'd only seen her in the Princess Diaries movies and Ella Enchanted. Then in Brokeback there is a scene were she's topless.

For a moment there my brain couldn't handle the fact I was seeing Princess Mia's boobs. It certainly was a *blink* *blink* wtf? moment.
