stephbg: I made this! (cat herder)

tl;dr On Thursday 18th October 2014 at roughly 4pm Sector 7 was struck by an extreme hailstorm which destroyed our patio roof and caused some water damage to the ceiling. Also apologies for timey wimey vagueness and possible cruelty to tenses. Spoons have not been in good supply lately.

In the interests of full disclosure I feel I should declare that I'm not feeling the weather love right now. For the non-locals we have a humungous unseasonal storm supposed to descend in the next two hours, but the Magic Rain-Detecting Bodyparts(tm) are having none of it.

Anyone here in Perth who can feel the humdity will not be surprised to learn that it's hazy out there.

Have had a very bad run with pain of late especially in my arms so this will be short, but I wanted to get something down on record.

Some sky pictures. Hope you like them. You're probably not as excited by clouds as I am. I get that. It's fine.

On the day these pictures were taken Perth experienced some of its most spectacular thunderstorms, including the whole Summer's average rainfall in one hour. (Or was it half? A lot, anyway). These are not particularly stormy or shots of dramatic lightning, but as a fan of clouds I like them.

Today has been a good news day for super villains. I usually do all my link sharing over at Facebook because it's easier, but when a narrative emerges from the froth there's nothing quite like this old place.

A while ago I saw an @abcnews request for information tweet for a story about how people use pain to detect rain, something along the lines of "@doctorx wants to hear from people who feel pain before rain," so I responded to @doctorx in 140 characters as one must: "I have very accurate magic rain-detecting body parts. Some old injuries, some fibromyalgia." I remember thinking at the time that the author of the report/story would get in touch with me if they were interested, but I heard no more and forgot all about it. Until I saw this:

There was some interesting weather kicking around Perth yesterday (10 Oct 2011). Not much of it landed anywhere near Sector 7, but it did make for a gorgeous sunset sky. I hope you enjoys these pictures.

I find the current weather radar image a little difficult to believe:

I miss the old radar :-(

Holy cow!

All is well; I am still easily amused by weather observations that violate the laws of physics:

Watch out for those calm westerlies.

As I left Sector 7 to go for a walk this afternoon (I went for a walk!), I saw an interesting cloud and thought someone must be enjoying some rain.

Clouds or nuclear devastation. One of those. Plus bonus surprise rant about fire warnings. )

Someone at the BOM is getting a bit lazy about faking up the radar images. Tonight they seem to be using some kind of Paint 1.0 crayon tool.

No-one believes your lies BOM. No-one.

ED: And it just gets more embarrassing:

I'm beginning to suspect that the BOM is using loaded dice. Can we get a *little* climate change^ going on here?

Husband is doing his bit by participating in two major (and thoroughly awesome) outdoor concert events on the weekend, but it looks like months of planning and mountains of electrical equipment will not be sufficient to tempt the weather gods. We've left car washing as a rain summons behind long since.

(^) Yes, I do understand the difference between weather variation and climate change. It's a joke. F&^*ing sunshine.

Oh come on

It hasn't rained here for a hell of a long time. Tomorrow's forecast is Mostly sunny 20-34. But then it gets really annoying:

The hills gets the odd thunder shower, but the catchments couldn't catch a cold right now /insert joke re disappointing sporting organisation of your choice here/. What does the fair city of Perth need to do to attract some wet stuff from the sky, exactly? There are only so many outdoor events one can plan. Only so much laundry you can hang, or cars you can wash.

Aaaargghh.
